A. V. Parks is a writer of paranormal, romantasy, historical, and speculative fiction, who likes to play with ideas and bend genres. She graduated from Princeton summa cum laude and has worked in publishing, the music industry, television, and video production.
She’s the daughter of a swing musician and a stock broker, and the granddaughter of a Catholic priest.
She’s been writing stories ever since she learned to write her name, and making them up even before that. She lives in New Orleans in the Garden District, in a wonderful spooky old house with at least four ghosts, two dogs, three cats, and semi-regular guests, since she also runs an Airbnb.
Her favorite color is purple. Her favorite drink is absinthe. Her favorite food is…well, we’ll get to that. She has ten tattoos and intends to get more. She mated for life, and still honors that, although sometimes she gets a little lonesome.
Mostly she’s someone who loves making things up, and who believes absolutely that the truest things we can describe are the ones that have never happened.
This whole description is, of course, a lie

As orphans, they know struggle. But nothing has prepared them for this.
When Nina Lamb arrives at the Daedalus School in New Orleans, she has no memory of life before Hurricane Katrina. But within its walls, she discovers a terrifying truth: Daedalus isn’t just a school-it’s a battleground. The Saturni, cosmic beings hungry to consume the world, are real. So are their cursed henchmen, the Skin Eaters, raised here from childhood to embrace their monstrous fate.
With her friends Bellocq and Alastaire, Nina unearths deadly secrets-the rebellion of Sister Aquilina, the torment of the school’s assistant headmaster, and the voodoo gods imprisoned inside Daedalus. As her own strange powers awaken, she must decide who to trust in a war where nothing is as it seems.
Their fight for survival has only begun.
ORPHANS is the first book in The Saturni series-a dark, atmospheric tale of cosmic horror, ancient magic, and the battle for the soul of the world.

“This is decidedly not kids’ stuff. I imagined a light hearted book along the lines of ‘Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children.’ I was unprepared for the dark, complex, morally ambiguous world the author creates. It is smart, soulful, and fleshy.
If Margaret Atwood and Clive Barker had a love child and left it on Anne Rice’s doorstep to be raised, it would be ‘Orphans.’ I devoured it in a day and hunger for more.”

“A.V. Parks reveals a dark and vivid world, just behind the veil of New Orleans’ gentile Garden District and gives an ancient legend a macabre and very unexpected twist. The mystery of Nina Lamb had me mesmerized from page one. It’s been a long time since I picked up a book I couldn’t put down. I read Orphans in one sitting and can’t wait for book 2!”

“A.V. Parks crafts a chilling tale full of secrets, strange powers, and unforgettable characters. This is the kind of debut that makes you desperate for the next installment.”
